S.T.A.R. Puppy
S.T.A.R. stands for Socialization, Training, Activity, and Responsibility. We will touch upon the basics all while discussing those things to get your puppies off on the best…paw forward! In this class we discuss the best habits to have with your puppy through adulthood. We touch upon the basics; sit, down, stand, stay, and recall. Then we'll troubleshoot those behaviors that are inherent to dogs that can sometimes annoy us; excessive nipping, barking, jumping, and leash pulling. Puppies will be evaluated throughout the entirety of the session.
Canine Good Citizen
So, Basic was nice, right? You got a good foundation, saw a change in the bond between you and your dog; heck, maybe created a bond with your dog! Now you’re enjoying your dog! Maybe you want other people to enjoy your dog as well? The AKC program Canine Good Citizen is next.
CGC strengthens the basics by transitioning commands to the 20-foot leash. We also create distractions to minimize those times your dogs might become startled in the real world. Heeling nicely is a main point. Passing and approaching of other dogs without reaction is very important. Dogs also must meet a “friendly stranger” and be brushed by them. The “friendly stranger” will be the AKC CGC evaluator. Any dog, any age is welcome to take this class so long as the basics are reliable. Any age dog is eligible to be evaluated. AKC requires that dogs can only evaluate on a regular collar and leash. This class is evaluated in a class setting.
Community Canine
If your dog is registered with AKC, you're eligible to be evaluated for this program. Everything learned in the CGC class is enhanced while asking for the dogs for better impulse control in public situations. The point of this class is to mimic a more natural setting. Just think how nice it would be to be able to navigate a crowded street still holding your Starbucks...not wearing it. This class is evaluated in a class setting.
Urban Good Citizen
If your dog is registered with AKC, you're eligible to be evaluated for this program. The best thing about this program is the ability to go to dog friendly establishments to practice teaching your dog to stay in place when required without being distracted. Most of this class is practiced outside where the world is full of squirrel ninjas and trash leave-its. This is a real-world test for your dogs and is evaluated in the real world.
